About Separation Rules

When choosing which ads to play, the AmperWave Streaming system compares the DAAST Ad Category value against other campaigns’ DAAST Ad Category values and also compares the AmperWave Streaming compete code value against other campaigns’ AmperWave Streaming compete code values. If either of them match according to the separation rules below, then a minimum separation of the ads in minutes is enforced between the two ads.

Note: The Compete Code field is a legacy field in AmperWave Streaming and is not compatible with other Audacy products. We advise using the DAAST Ad Category field instead.

Separation Rules for Ads Originating Within AmperWave Streaming

If two ads have tier 1 and tier 2 values defined and if both values match then separation is enforced, otherwise separation is not enforced.

If an ad is missing a tier 2 value then that ad competes with all ads with the same tier 1 value, regardless of their tier 2 value.  Use caution when selecting a tier 1 category as it causes a minimum separation in minutes with all other ads that have that same tier 1 category, decreasing the number of impressions available for all ads with that category.

Separation Rules for Ads Originating From External Ad Servers

Ads compete with all other ads (regardless of where they originate from) that have the same tier 1 value. Tier 2 values are ignored.

Separation Rules for Share of Voice (SOV) Campaigns

AmperWave Streaming treats Share of Voice campaigns differently when evaluating competing ads as compared to play or impression-based ads.
