Best Practices for Ad Categories and No-Repeat Timers

This section tells you about the compete code/DAAST Category and timer best practices. We recommend using these practices in order to ensure efficient campaigns.

Note: The Compete Code field is a legacy field in AmperWave Streaming and is not compatible with other Audacy products. We advise using the DAAST Ad Category field instead.

A DAAST ad category is required for each campaign. This ensures that AmperWave Streaming will rotate throughout your campaigns and your breaks will not be repetitive.

Note: One exception to this would be a filler campaign with varied media. In this case, since none of the content sounds particularly similar, it would not sound bad to play them back-to-back. However, if you want to use fill we highly recommend the use of the fill library using break templates.

The No-Compete timer should generally be set to 5-10 minutes. This ensures there is sufficient time between any similar ads.

The No-Repeat timer should be set a bit longer. This stops any identical ads from playing in the same break period. We recommend 20-30 minutes, depending on how long between breaks your programming is.

The No-Compete and No-Repeat timers are set globally on the Preferences page (click the Ad Management tab, then Preferences). You can see the location in the screenshot below.

To set a No-Repeat Override in a particular campaign, make the change in the campaigns’s properties (shown in the screenshot below). This will set the minimum length of time between plays of ads from the same campaign.

Separation Rules for Share of Voice (SOV) Campaigns

AmperWave Streaming treats SOV campaigns differently when evaluating competing ads as compared to play or impression-based ads. For more information, see Compete Codes, DAAST Ad Categories, & No Repeat Timers.
