About Compete Codes, DAAST Ad Categories, and No Repeat Timers

Compete codes and DAAST ad categories are a descriptive taxonomy you assign to campaigns to prevent similar ads from playing too closely together. The no-compete timer sets the length of time that must pass between plays of ads with the same category. The no-repeat timer sets the length of time that must pass between plays of the same ad (account level timer) or ads from the same campaign (campaign no-repeat override timer).

The account-level no repeat timer is located at Ad Management > Preferences > Settings.

The campaign override no repeat timer is set on the campaign's Campaign Properties page.

For example:

If you have an ad campaign for Geico and another for Progressive, you would assign the DAAST ad category Insurance (IAB13-6) to both campaigns. This tells AmperWave Streaming that the ads in these campaigns are similar and compete with each other.

If you have the account-level No Compete Time set to 5 minutes and a Geico ad plays, then a Progressive ad cannot play for at least 5 minutes.

If you want only one Insurance (IAB13-6) ad to play per ad break, and your ad breaks are 3 minutes, you would set your No Compete Time to 3 min.

If you don't mind two insurance ads from different campaigns playing in the same ad break, but specifically don't want multiple ads from the Geico campaign to play in the same break, set the Geico campaign's No Repeat Override time to a number the same or larger as your usual ad break length and set the account-level No Compete Time to a number lower than the length of your ad breaks.

Note: The Compete Code field is a legacy field in AmperWave Streaming and is not compatible with other Audacy products. We advise using the DAAST Ad Category field instead.

You can set your system's account-level No Compete Time and No Repeat Time on the Settings page  (Ad Management > Preferences > Settings).
