Creative Files Overview

AmperWave Streaming supports multiple creative files per ad. This enables different content files (creatives) to be rotated evenly or on a custom weighted basis as part of the ad playout. The weighting of the ad, whether evenly or custom, is used at ad selection time to select the ad. In addition, each creative can have its own start and end dates which, when combined with weighting, enables advanced playout scenarios.

When the creative file properties are collapsed to a single row, only the summary data for that creative file is displayed. To see all properties, click the right arrow to expand the fields. If a creative file does not have a media file uploaded or URL defined, an orange alert message appears at the top of the page.

Note: It is possible to pick start and/or end dates where there are no active flights, which prevents the creative from playing. For a creative to be played on a certain day, that day needs to be in an active flight and be within the creative's start and end date.

Weighting

When the Weighting field is set to Even, the ad's creatives rotate so that they each are displayed with the same frequency.

If there are two creatives and you select Even weighting, each creative is displayed 50% of the time.

When the Weighting field is set to Custom, the value in the Weighting field is used relative to the values in the other creative's Weighting fields to determine the frequency with which the creatives are displayed.

The frequencies are calculated by adding the total of all weighting fields, and using that as the denominator in a fraction, with the custom value as the numerator.

For example:

If there are two creatives, A and B, and their weights are 10 for A and 5 for B, then the total is 15 (10 + 5).
This means A would be selected 10/15 times (two thirds of the time, or roughly 66%) and B would be selected 5/15 times (one third of the time, roughly 33%).

If there are three creatives, X, Y, and Z, and their weights are 10 for X and Y, and 5 for Z, then the total is 25 (10 + 10 + 5).
This means X would be selected 10/25 times (two fifths of the time, or 40%),Y would be selected 10/25 times (two fifths of the time, or 40%), and Z would be selected 5/25 times (one fifth of the time, or 20%).
